The Stoning of Soraya M.  → thestoning.com

racistornotracist:

(via michelevia)

The verdict against Soraya M., was carried out in a village called Kupayeh, but it could have been almost anywhere in rural Iran. It could happen, and does still, in Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, or anyplace where sharia is the law of the land. More common, by far, in the Muslim world is the perverse practice of “honor killings” — the slaying of a woman or girl by male members of her own family on the basis of some presumed sexual indiscretion. The barbarity of this practice is mirrored by its Orwellian description, for it is one of the most dishonorable practices in the world.

Soraya M’s brutal execution occurred more than two decades ago, but it was only last October that a girl barely into her teens was stoned to death in a stadium in the Somalian port city of Kismayo. Initially, her “crime” was said to be adultery, and her age given as 23. Actually, according to Amnesty International, she was 13 years old, and she came into the custody of an Islamic militia when she had the temerity to report to authorities that she had been gang-raped. Her three attackers were not charged. The girl was publicly murdered before 1,000 cheering spectators. Her name was Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow.

Brutal, just brutal. But that’s what you get for not separating state and church.

BTW, I just checked out the trailer at the site the link points to, and I must say that I am truly inspired by what I saw. I must see this movie soon.

Haha. It's funny how we hide the number of followers we have because we are afraid what might others think of us.

leilockheart:

If it’s enormous, you’re boasting.

If it’s not high enough to their standards, you’re “feeling.”

The common denominator: you’ll get judged. thus, you’ll lose (or gain) followers.

I follow 102 people and 32 people follow me. I am not ashamed.

I absolutely despise showering in Pakistan.

I generally tend to be a clean person, and I care about hygiene. The problem, however, is with the bathroom itself. While you’re taking a shower, you don’t want the whole bathroom to smell like the shit that someone just deposited into that pathetic hole in the ground. The bathroom also lacks a bathtub which means that the toilet, sink, and showering area are just one whole facility, undivided. No matter how much you clean the bathroom, you cannot get rid of the somewhat ingrained smell. To top that off, the walls and roof are constructed of rough cement which would probably tear off your skin if you rubbed against it. The floor is constructed of crappy plastic tiles, and the toilet is literally not two feet away from where you stand up and shower. The sink is one foot away from where you shower. The whole bathroom probably isn’t more than 5 feet by 3 feet. I would also consider the abundance of ginormous mutated spiders and slithering lizards a problem. That is especially if you find a spider chilling on your toothbrush one day, and you begin to wonder who or what else chills there when you’re not looking.

Usually, I would like the place in which I clean to be clean. If that is not the case, then I see no reason to taking a shower at such a place.

If I had the voice to sing any song at all, this would be it.

“I‘m holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground
And I’m hearing what you say
But I just can’t make a sound

You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down, but wait
You tell me that you’re sorry
Didn’t think I’d turn around and say

That it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I’d take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But that’s nothing new, yeah yeah
[ Apologize lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]

I loved you with a fire red, now it’s turning blue
And you say sorry like the angel
Heaven let me think was you
But I’m afraid

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late, whoa whoa

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I said it’s too late to apologize, yeah
I said it’s too late to apologize, yeah

I’m holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground”
